Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been expelled from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) as a lifetime member, effective imediately.

PKR disciplinary committee chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong said the decision was made after the party’s central leadership meeting held an inquiry to review the disciplinary cases against Abdul Khalid.

"With the dismissal, Khalid becomes an independent assemblymen and remains as Selangor Menteri Besar," Tan said at a press conference held at PKR headquarters this evening.

Tan explained that Abdul Khalid failed to adhere to the decision made by the central leadership which unanimously chose PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on July 21.

"He made a press statement issued on July 22, 2014 stating his refusal to resign as Menteri Besar and to this day refuses to relinquish his post.

"On this basis the disciplinary board reflects that he has to be sacked," said Tan.

According to Tan, the central leadership also noted Abdul Khalid’s rejection of the decision made by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Presidential Council, which was also attended by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Lim Kit Siang and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to suspend the process and discussion of the Langat 2 project; and postponing the hike in salaries of chief minister, Exco and members of the Selangor state assembly.

"He also failed to comply with the decision made by PR Presidential Council, which was agreed by him, to involve Selangor Water Restructuring Committee in the issue of restructuring Selangor’s water assets.

"He insisted on pursuing the Kidex highway project although he had directed the party to review the project because it is contrary to the goals and PR manifesto presented before the 13th General Election (GE13).

"He also failed to give a full explanation to the central leadership on the issue of his out-of-court settlement of his debt with Bank Islam worth almost RM70 million," he said.

Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said Abdul Khalid’s action is an open defiance.

"Based on refined consideration, it was an open defiance against the party and PKR,"he said.

When asked why Abdul Khalid hearing is not postponed to August 15 as requested, central leadership member R. Sivarasah said the postponement of the case is unnecessary and irrelevant.

Following the dismissal, Abdul Khalid has 14 days to appeal the decision made by the central leadership.

This morning, Abdul Khalid sent a reminder notice to the PKR disciplinary board to object the discussion of his case by the central leadership, but it continued as planned.
