Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today proposed to the government to build a youth city in the suburban area to overcome the housing problems of young people.

He said the idea could materialise through the cooperation between the federal government and private housing developers, besides redeveloping the existing public housing projects.

"(All this while), the main problem for these young people is that they do not want to live in a suburban area because there are not many shopping malls, sport facilities, entertainments and the likes.

"If the youth city can be built with houses being offered at much lower prices or below RM150,000, it will definitely attract youths to live there, hence developing the suburban area," he told a press conference after chairing the Umno Youth Central Committee meeting here on Tuesday.

Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said a memorandum on the matter would be submitted to the federal government for consideration and it was hoped that the proposal could be inserted in the 2015 Budget.

Meanwhile, Khairy said Umno Youth was in the midst of organising a nationwide blood donation programme, known as Blood4Gaza, for war victims in Palestine.

Blood collected would be sent to Gaza by Umno Youth team soon, he added.
