Kelantan is still among the states which attracted the lowest number of investors in the manufacturing sector, said International Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said this situation would continue if the state still failed to boost its promotions and improve basic facilities.

"The ministry, however, will remain focused on helping the state overcome the problems.

"In a series of campaigns we have undertaken, there are signs of changes. We are now processing an application to set up a cement plant.

"I will hold discussions with the State Economic Planning Unit and State Economic Development Corporation to help them attract investors," he said.

Mustapa said this to reporters opening Budu Cap Ketereh Budu factory and the launch of its products in Kampung Ketil here yesterday.

Kilang Budu Cap Ketereh is the biggest producer of pickles in the state.

He said if the plan to set up the cement plant was successful, more rakyat would be hired.

"The main reason investors are not keen on Kelantan is that there is lack of basic facilites," he said.

Mustapa said the ministry would help the pickles factory export its products.

"The ministry wants this product to be popular and be on the menu in key restaurants overseas," he said.
