Kelantan police believe they have crippled the biggest drug trafficking syndicate in the state following the arrest of a couple and seizure of 30,000 methamphetamine (meth) pills worth RM750,000 in Kampung Chepa, Sering, on Monday.

State police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said in the operation at about 2.10pm, a police team from the State Narcotics Task Force raided a house and arrested the couple aged 23 and 22 years.

"Inspection done in one of the rooms found 150 packets of meth pills weighing 3.028 kg.

"We believe these pills can be used by 15,000 drug addicts as it is said that on average, an addict needs two meth pills a day," he told reporters at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters, here, today.

Also present were the Kelantan police deputy chief Datuk Rosli Abdul Rahman and state Narcotics CID chief Supt Mit A/L Emong.

Mazlan said police also sealed all the couple's assets worth RM304,141 including RM59,141 in cash.

He said the syndicate known as 'Bunan' was beleived to be active in the districts of Bachok, Tumpat and Kota Baharu.

"We believe the 23-year-old man is the syndicate's leader and they received the drug supply from a neighbouring country," he said.

Mazlan said the suspects operated from different houses to avoid detection by the authorities.

"They also moved from one place to another every four months, as part of the group's modus operandi," he said.

All the suspects are remanded for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death sentence, if convicted.
