The Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said that the Welfare Department (JKM) will ensure the compliance of the three conditions set by the Swedish government.

The conditions paved the way for the four children of the Malaysian couple arrested by the Swedish authorities in that country, to be brought back to Malaysia.

According to Bernama, the conditions were in line with Article 3 and Article 20 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

"The three conditions imposed by the welfare department of Sweden is that the government of Malaysia, through JKM, must ensure the submission of a periodic report, conduct counselling for the children and ensure social assurance as contained in Articles 3 and 20 of the CRC.

"As a responsible minister, I will make sure JKM implements the three conditions," she said.

She explained that Article 3 focused on the 'welfare and the interests of the child' and Article 20 focused on the rights of the child after he/she has been temporarily or permanently deprived of his or her family environment.

"Both of these things have been looked into which allowed the children to be placed with a Muslim family and also be brought back to Malaysia," he said.

"Social Assurance refers to the willingness of the government to ensure that the children's rights such as protection and development contained in the CRC are protected when they return to Malaysia," she said.

CRC is a convention that has been adopted by almost all countries under the United Nations (UN) and Malaysia has signed or ratified the CRC in 1995 .
