The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will intensify efforts to stop Muslims from joining militant groups in the name of 'jihad.'

"Our job is to inform, explain and guide them when requested by the authorities," said its director-general, Datuk Othman Mustapha said commenting on the involvement of Malaysians in militant groups here, today.

"After Jakim explained the issue, they agreed and realised their mistakes," he told reporters after launching the 'Farmaseutikal Halal' television series.

The series, jointly produced by Jakim and Chemical Company of Malaysia (CCM), will be shown on Saturdays and Sundays via TV1, RTM from Dec 6.

Othman said the series can create awareness and enhance understanding of Muslims on halal medicine.
