Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today expressed his support towards Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's new political party formation that would ally with all other opposition parties.

Below is a translation of the former deputy ministry’s statement to the media:

"I agree with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s suggestion to establish a new political party that will cooperate with all quarters including Pakatan Harapan, PAS and civil community groups to continue the fight to save Malaysia.

"I have discussed with Tun Dr Mahathir, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Datuk Seri Mukhriz (Mahathir) and other friends on the need for a new political platform to continue this battle by participating in elections.

"At the same time, I also believe that the new platform will only be effective if a consensus is reached with fellow leaders from other Opposition parties. So, I will continue to discuss with the relevant parties before deciding on the next move.

"I'm also of the same view with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Dato' Seri Azmin Mohamed Ali and several other PH and PAS leaders that all Opposition parties need to discuss again to come to an agreement in facing the upcoming general election. This cooperation is crucial to earn the rakyat's trust that there are political parties besides BN that can helm Malaysia better and safeguard the people's welfare.

"I welcome this positive development and am ready to discuss with all parties on the best way to bring political and governmental change that all Malaysians have been waiting for, through the upcoming general election.

"The assumption that BN will continue to remain in power only because of fractions among Opposition parties is not necessarily correct. I believe Malaysians are ready for a change and the rakyat, regardless of race and religion, will unite to safeguard their welfare; oppose corruption, abuse of power and extreme manipulation of racial sentimentsm, to create a better future for all.

"God willing, with the people’s solidarity and leaders’ sincerity in fighting for the rakyat and country’s interest, we will succeed in setting aside our differences, create unity and achieve victory."
