Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be attending the 2014 FIFA World Cup football final next month, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff invited Modi to watch the football final last week.

"I understand there are no plans for the prime minister to be present at the FIFA final," a spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs told reporters on Wednesday.

Modi is expected to attend a summit of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) between July 15 and 17 in the city of Fortaleza.

The World Cup final will be held in Rio de Janeiro on July 13.

Rousseff had also invited other BRICS leaders to watch the football final. Modi launched a series of stamps commemorating the 2014 World Cup earlier this month.
