A total of 84 employers have been arrested with half of them charged in court for employing illegal workers.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the statistic was from Ops Mega which was launched July 1 throughout the nation.

He said the operation will be continued to track employers who still employ illegals despite complaints that businesses are affected because of the operation.

"I have stressed this many times, employers have to be responsible. Up until this morning, 84 have been arrested," he said after attending Hari Raya Aidilfitri function at the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department today.

He said those found guilty could face fine, jail time, cane and have their assets frozen.
