Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today stressed that he would not be working with any political parties to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said he is only worried with UMNO’s direction especially for the next General Election.

"No ... no ... I will not cooperate with any quarters (political party ) to topple Najib , not with the opposition .
“We must remember the results of the 13th general election. Najib’s performance was worse than Pak Lah’s (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi),” he said.

Mahathir said so when responding to veteran DAP leader, Lim Kit Siang’s statement yesterday that he would work with the former in order to ‘save’ Malaysia.

Mahathir added that many Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs have met him to express their worries about UMNO’s fate.

On Saturday, Lim had said that the country is being torn apart by political crises he is even willing to work with Mahathir if it will save the country.

“Quite a number of BN MPs had met with me, but they refused to be seen with me or showing support for me. I understand their concern.

“A lot of people have been detained … people are now afraid the police would come after them and lock them up. They are afraid that if they show their support, they would be apprehended,” he added.

Mahathir was speaking to reporters at “Criminalise War, Energise Peace” organised by Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War (KLFCW) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here, today.

Mahathir was accompanied by wife, Tun Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
