The public will be able to lodge police reports online, once the technical problems to launch the service are solved.

In giving this assurance, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the service will enable complainants to lodge police reports through the internet and smart phones.

“The Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and PDRM are ready with the facility and the system. There is only some problem with the legal part which is being looked at by the Attorney General,” he told Astro AWANI.

Currently, the law makes it compulsory for every police report lodged, to be signed.

“The Attorney General's Chambers is looking at how we can solve this.”

Khalid also said when the service is introduced, complaints that it is difficult to lodge reports should not arise.

"We receive all sorts of complaints such as it is difficult to lodge police reports, the police station is far away and so on so forth. The online reporting system, will make it easy for all parties,” he said.

Khalid also expressed hope that the facility will not be abused.
