It never crossed the mind of popular preacher Datuk Ustaz Mohd Kazim Elias that he might be suffering heart problems as he had always maintained a healthy lifestyle.

He said he had underwent health tests last year, including stress test and the results showed that he did not have any heart related issues.

However, he admitted that his work pressure in the last ten years including the setting up of Al–Barakah centre could have worn him down.

He said apart from healthy lifestyle, he also preferred to take the stairs than lifts, hike and never felt tired.

“So, I was surprised that I had heart attack as I have always practised healthy living,” he said at a press conference today.

This is his first press meet after he had a heart attack while giving a talk in Kelantan, three weeks ago.

The preacher who is also a diabetic patient said doctors are now controlling the sugar levels in his blood stream and said he would recover soon once his diabetes level improves.

He said the heart attack had restricted his movement and he can no longer move quickly and could not watch certain television programmes like football and news.

“I am already bored sitting at home and want to go back to giving talks but I cannot do and see a lot of things. I could not even watch the Kedah versus Kelantan match yesterday,” he said.

Mohd Kazim was admitted to Hospital Sains Malaysia (HUSM) after complaining of fatigue and chest pains while giving a talk at the compound of Sri Gunong Farmers' Organisation building in Bator, Bachok, last month.

He underwent his second angiogram after doctors discovered that Mohd Kazim had a 99 per cent blockage and another 50 per cent blockage in two arteries.

His brother Datuk Mohd Najmuddin Elias said the preacher was supposed to go for a medical checkup recently but it coincided with his talk in Sabah so he skipped the medical appointment even though he was already having the symptoms.
