Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today clarified a misreporting by a wire news agency on his comments on calling an election.

"I did not say that elections will be in 2018. What I said was that elections are not due until 2018 but the date of election does not depend on one factor. It depends on several factors.

"I did not commit to elections in 2018 nor did I commit to early elections," he told Malaysian media at the end of his three-day official visit to Germany.

The news agency had quoted Najib, who is also Finance Minister, as saying that the elections will not be before 2018.
