The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) urged UMNO, PAS, and PKR leaders to give an explanation to their counterparts in MCA and DAP regarding the hudud implementation in Kelantan next year.

ABIM vice president, Hasri Harun said the MCA and DAP leaders need to have a better understanding of hudud so that a polemics over hudud does not arise again.

He said that research done by certain parties found that the non-Muslim public understand what hudud meant.

However he did not specify the source of the research.

“The research done by a few parties found that, though there was resistance from a small section of non-Muslims against hudud, but if there is an explanation, it won’t become a polemic.

“Polemics over hudud was raised by political leaders and not the general public because they understand what is hudud.

“We are of the opinion that it is UMNO, PAS and PKR’s responsibility to ensure the leaders of MCA and DAP understand hudud so that polemics over the law do not arise again,” he said in an interview with Astro AWANI.

In a statement released Friday, Hasri opined that the statements released by MCA-DAP seem to allude that UMNO-PAS-PKR failed to give a better understanding of syariah law to their two political party allies.

“The implementation of hudud needs a strong political will in the form of support and understanding from MCA-DAP

“For the sake of forming a strong political will, UMNO-PAS-PKR must take the responsibility of highlighting a thorough a academic understanding in the implementation of hudud.

“UMNO, PAS and PKR should refrain from race and religious based rhetorics in handling polemics,” he said.

Hasri in the statement also said that all parties should play a role in preventing Islamophobia from spreading following issues that could affect the stability of the relationship between religion and politics in this country.

It was the reported that the Kelantan government completed of two private bills to be submitted to Parliament to enable the Syariah Criminal Code (2) Act 1993 to be enacted in Kelantan.
