Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein gave his assurance that the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 2 runway, which was highly criticised, was safe for operations.

During his visit to the KLIA2 site this morning, Hishammuddin said he was satisfied with the works carried out.

“I am pleased overall with the work in progress and confident that it will be completed on time.

“I noticed the relevant stakeholders involved in the KLIA2 project have taken serious measures to ensure all the works are carried out according to schedule,” he said.

The KLIA2 project had been much talked about after the Public Accounts Committee announced the investigation against Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s role in the delay and increase of cost.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), one of Khazanah’s entity responsible for handling the project, was heavily criticized for the delay of the project and the ballooning cost, from RM1.6 billion to RM4 billion, after several changes.
