The Selangor state government has thrown its full support behind the call made by the Malay Rulers who have collectively called for transparency in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigation and for wrongdoers to be punished.

In a statement released today Menteri Besar, Mohamed Azmin Ali said not just the leaders, but the entire nation should welcome and take seriously the concerns and views expressed in the statement.

Azmin said, each and every matter expressed resonates with the people in as much as they share with the same degree of care and concern the issues raised by the Rulers.

"We note in particular the reminder to all leaders "to always adhere to the Rukun Negara principles of upholding the constitution and the rule of law."

"We believe that this reminder is not just timely for the current issues affecting the nation but should remain a guiding light at all times to all those who hold executive power," Azmin said in response to the statement issued by the Malay rulers yesterday.

In the statement released by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad on Tuesday, the Malay Rulers called on the government to complete the investigation related to 1MDB as soon as possible and take "the appropriate stern action" against all found to be implicated.

Their royal highnesses also stressed that all concerned should extend "real and sincere" cooperation for the investigation to achieve its objectives.

The statement also said the failure to give convincing clarifications and answers is feared to have resulted in a crisis of confidence.

In regards to this, Azmin stressed the profound importance of the views and concerns of the Rulers as so clearly and firmly articulated in the statement.

"On behalf of the Rakyat of Selangor, we commend our highest regard for their Royal Highnesses and express our deep and sincere appreciation for the views expressed and the invaluable advice given," he said.
