The proposed protest against MIC's central working committee (CWC) meeting today went on as planned with heavy police and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) presence.

About 500 disgruntled MIC members, led by former MIC Youth Chief, Datuk T. Mohan, turned up in full force to voice out their dissatisfaction against the party's decision to hold the meeting.

Shouts of 'step down Palani' were heard at the protest, held from 1pm at the party's headquarters today.

A scuffle broke out when Mohan's and Palanivel's supporters met when they shoved, pulled and shouted at each other.

Palanivel was holding a meeting with his supporters inside the MIC Headquarters' building while all these took place.

Forcing their way through heavy security, Mohan and his supporters barged into the meeting room and demanded for Palanivel to include former CWC members into the meeting.

The party's strategic director Vell Paari told Astro AWANI that Palanivel agreed to include at least six former CWC members, along with the 23 CWC members from the 2013 batch.

The meeting is currently underway while supporters and police continue to be at the site.

The meeting is expected to end around 5pm.

The RoS has ordered MIC to hold fresh elections for the party's 23 CWC members and the post of three vice-presidents within 90 days, following alleged irregularities and breach of the party's constitution and Societies Act.

The party's emergency CWC meeting today was to decide if the party should hold fresh elections.
