The haze situation, which is expected to worsen over the next few months, is now hitting the capital Kuala Lumpur, after latest air pollutant index (API) readings revealed that air quality in part of the city is now "unhealthy".

According to Department of Environment (DoE) on its website, Cheras (Kuala Lumpur) now has air pollutant index (API) reading of 105 (as of Monday 5pm), versus a reading of 70 and 76 at 11am and 7am, respectively.
Good news is that the number of areas which has "unhealthy" API readings have declined to three, against four previously.

Melacca, which had API readings of above 100 at 7am and 11am, recorded an API of 62 at 5pm. the fear of the haze situation to worsen continue to lingers on.

A level of 101-200 is considered unhealthy, while 51-100 is moderate.

Besides Cheras, the other two areas affected are Balok Baru (Kuantan) and Kemaman.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, on his Facebook page, said that the haze situation in Malaysia is going to worsen in the coming days with winds carrying smoke from hot spots in Sumatra.

He advised Malaysians to reduce outdoor activity and drink a lot of water during this period.

"Health should remain a number one priority for everyone," said Najib.
