The national paralympic sailors put on a sterling performance at the Wangsan Sailing Marina here today, winning one gold, a silver and a bronze.

The sailing contingent's chief coach ,Mohamad Rezaki Shoib said the silver and bronze were a bonus as they were not expected.

Al Mustakim Matrin clinched the gold in the Single-Person Keelboat after collecting 11 penalty points while compatriot Azmi Ani picked up the silver when he managed 23 penalty points (the lower the points the higher the score).

Foo Yuen Wai of Hong Kong had to settled for the bronze after finishing with 43 penalty points.

"Our sailors did a splendid job despite keen competition. Al Mustakim was in a class of his own but the Hong Kong sailor gave a tough fight," Mohamad Rezaki told Bernama.

The bronze was won by the pair of Nurul Amilin Balawi and Mustafah Junell in the Two-Person Keelboat.

The gold in this event was won by Tan Wei Qiang and Yap Qian Yin from Singapore while the silver went to Shinya Yamamoto and Mari Kitagawa of Japan.
