FOOTBALL was once played for the nation.

Former UMNO Wanita chief, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz reminisced those glory days of Malaysian football, ever since football film Ola Bola gaining a lot of attention from Malaysians.

In the first four days of its screening, the local moie has already raked in more than RM2 million at the box office.

Sharing those sweet memories on Facebook, Rafidah said those days, the national team consisted of not only the Malays but the Chinese, the Indians and other races as well.

She said this was the result of education and the environment moulded into us at home and school.

"No one injected into our lives the notion of 'being different'. Schools treated us all as equals," said Rafidah.

She said even though most had no television, but they all proved their Malaysian spirit by coming together and supporting the national team, even by just listening to the commentators through radio.

In spite all that, Rafidah said she is happy to know that the spirit of unity and belief still exist among youngters in the country.

Therefore, she hoped that this spirit will continue and become a part of them, thus becoming something that nation can be proud of.
