The second wave of floods that struck Terengganu and then Kelantan has now hit Pahang in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.

Thirty-two people were evacuated in Pahang today to a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempadang in Kuantan.

The number of evacuees in Kelantan rose to 526 this morning from only 19 last night.

Floodwaters have receded a little in Terengganu, leaving 505 people at relief centres compared to 1,139 last night.

In PAHANG, Kuantan Police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempadang was opened at 8 am today to accommodate the 32 residents of the Kempadang hardcore poor settlement.

"No casualties were reported and all roads in the Kuantan district are passable to traffic," he said when contacted as he visited the relief centre.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Pahang Police operations room said there had been no evacuation in the other districts.

Pahang has prepared 629 relief centres to accommodate up to 140,000 people in the event of floods in the state.

Pekan district has the most number of centres, 88; Temerloh, 82; Kuantan, 79; Rompin, 35 and Cameron Highlands, 20.

In KELANTAN, the 526 evacuees are from villages in the Jeli and Pasir Puteh districts.

A Kelantan National Security Council (NSC) statement said seven relief centres had been opened in Jeli, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kalai (69 evacuees); Sekolah Kebangsaan Jeli 1 (36); Sungai Satan Umno hall (33); Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ayer Lanas (149); Gemang Mosque (132); Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Melintang (48) and Lakota kindergarten (40).

The evacuees were from Kampung Ayer Lanas, Kampung Sungai Satan, Kampung Gemang, Kampung Kalai, Kampung Lalat and Kampung Lakota.

The number of evacuees at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Raja in Pasir Puteh remains at 19.

The Kelantan government flood portal reported that the level of Sungai Golok at Jenob in Tanah Merah as at 9 am was 24.88 metres, above the danger level of 23.50 metres.

All roads in Kelantan are passable to traffic.

In TERENGGANU, the receding floodwaters enabled many evacuees to return to their homes, leaving 505 at relief centres.

The Terengganu NSC portal reported that the floods in the Besut district had receded and the relief centre at the Teluk Bayu Mosque was closed after the eight evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.

Floodwaters were also receding in the Hulu Terengganu district.

The portal said that the worst-hit Kemaman district had 353 evacuees at nine relief centres. The number of evacuees had dropped from 422 last night.

There has been not much improvement in the situation in the district of Kuala Terengganu (22 evacuees), Marang (108) and Setiu (22).
