The number of flood victims in Melaka rose to 1,315 people, involving 281 families, as at 8 pm today.

Melaka Civil Defence Department director Lieutenant Colonel Effendy Ali said the victims were being accommodated at 12 relief centres in three districts in the state, namely Alor Gajah (eight), Jasin (three) and Melaka Tengah (one).

He said 458 people had so far been evacuated in the Alor Gajah district, with 316 of them at Balai Raya Seri Bayu, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Pengkalan; Sekolah Kebangsaan Belimbing Dalam (202 people); Sekolah Kebangsaan Ganun (59); Balai Raya Kampung Beringin (34), Surau Taman Seri Cahaya Tebong (18), Balai Raya Bukit Balai Durian Tunggal (18), Balai Raya Bukit Tambun (eight).

The flood victims in Jasin are evacuated Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Simpang Bekoh (62); Sekolah Kebangsaan Chohong (25) and Balai Raya Asahan (three).

As for the 112 evacues in Melaka Tengah, they are being accommodated at Masjid Rahman, Tanah Merah, Krubong, he said when contacted by Bernama.

Meanwhile in Johor, a flood evacuation centre was opened in Ledang when two villages in the district were submerged in water following heavy rain yesterday.

Ledang Social Welfare officer Suhaila Omar said 55 people from 11 families in Kampung Seberang Gajah and Kampung Sialang were evacuated to the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sialang at 6 pm today.
