The FitMalaysia Programme that was launched today will become the nation's impetus to ensure Malaysia becomes a sporting nation.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the FitMalaysia programme would be expanded throughout the nation through a road show that will begin in Melaka on Sept 14.

The model used during the launch of the programme in Dataran Merdeka today would be the same used throughout the nation.

"I am overwhelmed by the tremendous response because an estimated 50,000 fitness enthusiasts joined the various activities organised from 6am to 5pm. If the 'wave' of response can be maintained, the objective of inculcating a healthy lifestyle among the Malaysian population will become a reality," he told
reporters after launching the FitMalaysia programme at Dataran Merdeka, here today.

He added that the process would take a little time because only about 30 percent of Malaysians are involved in sports or fitness activities.

"FitMalaysia can become an avenue for Malaysians to practice a healthy lifestyle," he said.
