The Johor Football Association (PBNJ) today denied claims that Fandi Ahmad has been sacked as head coach of the Johor Darul Takzim team (JDT) team, effective Monday.

PBNJ honorary-secretary Mohd Fahmy Yahya said Fandi, from Singapore, was still with JDT for the Malaysia Cup competition, which would start on Aug 20.

"It never crossed our mind to sack him as had been voiced out in social media," he said when contacted by Bernama Tuesday.

Mohd Fahmy expressed regret at the attitude of certain parties who deliberately created rumours which had caused much confusion.

"In fact, I also received many telephone calls including from Singapore because they wanted to get confirmation on the matter from PBNJ," he said.

Several local sport news portals through Facebook and Twitter today were avidly discussing the sacking of the Singapore football legend as JDT chief coach.

The portals also mentioned that Cesar Ferrando Jimenez of Spain would take over the post vacated by Fandi.
