Traders should not increase the prices of goods as they please by using the latest toll hikes as an excuse as it only involves certain highways in the Klang Valley, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin.

He said the toll hikes were to enable the government to provide more assistance and facilities for the people in the future.

"The hikes do not involve all highways, but only those in the urban area. How many lorries use these highways? So, why do they (traders) want to raise prices?

"How many per cent of the highways increased (their toll rates), they must do some calculations," he told reporters after the pre-launch of the 2015 National Consumers Day and Love Made in Malaysia Campaign here today.

Several main highway concessionaires in the Klang Valley had announced hikes in toll rates of between 10 sen and RM6 effective Thursday.
