UMNO members who lost posts or were vanquished in the general election (GE) should not be dejected as everything that happens has a wisdom in its midst.

This advice comes from UMNO Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who noted that what was essential was to learn from every failure or loss.

"Maybe, we have suddenly lost posts in party elections or in the general election, and maybe, it is disappointing. Nevertheless, have faith. God has a better plan for us.

"I was like a see-saw in politics, down for a while, up again but more downs where I lost in the election for the (UMNO) youth chief post and vice-president's (post).

"But I kept calm because I know God will give me something better. There is no impossible situation for us," said the Kedah menteri besar in his speech when opening the Tanjong Karang UMNO Division Youth Delegates Meeting here today.

Also present were Tanjong Karang UMNO division deputy chief Datuk Shamsuddin Lias, division vice-chief Datuk Sulaiman Abdul Razak and division youth chief Maruwan Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Mukhriz urged UMNO members, especially in states controlled by the opposition, to be truly the people's champion to bring the states back to the Barisan Nasional (BN) fold.

"Like us in Kedah, we took a leaf from Terengganu which was re-captured from the opposition, when we lost the state at the 12th General Election.

"From there, we truly understood the grievances of the people, we championed them and showed them how to solve the problems.

"We moved like non-governmental organisations by campaigning here and there, and the response we received was so extraordinary whereby, we found there were definitely many things over which the people were unhappy about, with the state government," he said.
