PAS has urged the Malaysian government and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to apply in becoming intervener in the lawsuits filed by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) recently.

PAS Secretary-General, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the Malaysian government and 1MBD have interests in the matter as claimed by the DOJ in the civil suit.

“I would like to propose to the government about the matter, the government and 1MDB are not guilty, they must be part of the case as intervener.

“When 1MDB is mentioned in the writ of summons, it indicates that Malaysia has interests as 1MDB is wholly-owned by the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

“The Malaysian Government or 1MDB must place themselves as intervener in the judicial review proceedings by DOJ,” said Takiyuddin at a media conference organised by Persatuan Pribumi Perkasa (Perkasa) in Wangsa Maju, here today.

He stressed that the civil suit by DOJ is not unusual.

“What was done by DOJ is not an isolated case. In Malaysia, we have the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 under Section 3 or 4 upon conviction,” he added.

Last Tuesday, the U.S. Department of justice filed lawsuits seeking to seize dozens of properties tied to Malaysian state fund 1MDB, saying that over US$3.5 billion (RM14.28 billion) was misappropriated from the institution.
