The Defence Ministry has never shirked from its responsibility in any security crisis faced by the country, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the ministry through the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) was also involved in helping the people during floods that hit certain parts of the country in the monsoon season.

He also cited the water shortage in Selangor, during which the MAF's assets such as tankers were used to deliver water to the affected communities.

"Our military is not here just to defend the people in the event of a war, it also plays a role in reaching out to them when natural disasters occur," he told reporters.

He was met at the Terengganu Umno Convention 2014 here today.
