National paralympic keglers Ahmad Amil Husin and Mohd Khairul Ishak, making their debut in the Asian Para Games here, were overcome by emotion after winning the TPB8 + TPB8 Mixed Doubles silver medal at the Anyang Hogye Gymnasium, here today.

The duo who accumulated 1,662 pin falls were in tears after being announced as the silver medal winners ahead of Singapore duo Saaid Anuar and Tay leong Hock while Kwon Min-Kyu and Park Sang-Soo from the host country registered 1,896 pinfalls to take the gold.

"The silver medal win is both meaningful and significant to us because we had to go through so many hurdles to be here," he told reporters here.

For Ahmad Amil, 51, the silver medal feat more or less made up for his fourth place finish in the Mixed Singles PTB8, yesterday.

The duo who were paired together in July for the 2014 Asian Championships in Thailand, hope to continue their good form next year, especially at the Asean Para Games in Singapore.

Mohd Khairul, 34, who lost his ability to walk after an accident in 2000, took up the sport in 2006 and managed to make the grade to gain a place in the national elite paralympic team.

"This is my first Asian Para Games and already a silver medal winner. This is a very significant moment in my career and the win will give me the impetus to move on a more positive note," he said.

Meanwhile, another pair from Malaysia, Wong Kee Soon/Abu Bakar Nyot who competed in the TBP9/10 and TPB9/10 Mixed Doubles managed to claim a bronze medal after knocking down 2,144 pins.

Son Dae-Ho/Lee Min-Su from the host country knocked down 2,325 pinfalls to claim the gold medal ahead of Matias Samuel/Chi Kim Ian from the Philippines (2,175). - Karina Imran
