The Kuala Lumpur City Hall has allocated RM80 million in its 2017 Budget to develop a transit housing project known as a 'council home' in Sungai Udang, Segambut, here, expected to be completed in 2018.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said the project involved the construction of over 400-800 sq ft units for married couples with an estimated rent of between RM500 to RM800 a month.

"The facilities provided will be comparable to serviced apartments, like having a swimming pool," he said when tabling the budget here Monday.

In the meantime, Mhd Amin said two other areas had been identified for the construction of similar projects, namely in Razak Mansion, Sungai Besi, for newly married couples and in Kampung Keramat, Titiwangsa targeted for single people.

Both projects will be implemented in partnership with private developers and expected to begin next year.

Mhd Amin explained that the project in Razak Mansion, Sungai Besi, would involve the construction of 600 sq ft units with estimated rent of between RM300 and RM500 monthly.

While the project in Kampung Keramat will involve the construction of apartment units with five rooms and expected to be rented out for about RM80 per month.

According to Mhd Amin, all the tenants of council homes would be given a maximum period of five years to encourage them to buy their own homes. -- Bernama
