World No 1, Datuk Lee Chong Wei failed to advance to the Denmark Open semi-finals after being defeated by lower ranked Brice Leverdez, early today.

In the match played at Odense Sports Park, Denmark, Leverdez of France, who is world No 38, took 17 minutes to dash the national badminton icon's hopes with 21-17, 20-22 and 21-19.

Chong Wei was Denmark Open champion in 2005, 2006 and 2012.

As of now, only Men's Doubles Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong are in the running for Malaysia.

The pair who managed to stave off the challenge from China's Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen at the quarter finals late last night, will meet with host and tournament second seeds Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen. -- BERNAMA
