Political analyst Dr Chandra Muzaffar today applauded the move by government to allow political parties 10 minutes to present their manifestos on RTM during the 13th General Election (GE13).

However, he felt that both parties should be given fair access of airtime not just during the election but throughout the year as well.

“RTM 1 and RTM 2 are public broadcasters... they’re not just for the government,” said Chandra when contacted by Astro Awani.

The President for International Movement for a Just World (JUST) said the channel belongs to the people and not to the government alone.

He also calls the government to have a more public broadcasting.

On Friday, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim announced that political parties will be allowed to present their manifestos on RTM after Parliament is dissolved to pave way for the 13th General Election.

He said that the opportunity was being given to both BN and the opposition, but the presentation would be pre-recorded.
