A car wash owner pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here, today to a charge of uttering harsh words against a Road Transport Department officer (RTD), here.

Syed Amen Jainul Abdin, 45, was charged with the offence aimed at humiliating Asymal Mansur, 41, outside the lobby of the RTD Batu Uban branch at 4.45 pm, on Nov 26.

He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code which provided a maximum five-year jail or fine, or both, if found guilty.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Azura Zulkiflee offered a RM4,000 bail in one surety to the accused but lawyer Rosli Ismail, representing the accused, sought for a reduction as his client had been very cooperative during the investigation.

"The aim of the bail is to ensure the presence of the accused in court. I have ensured my client to be present in court today and I want to stress that he can attend court. So, a minimum bail is commensurate," he said.

Majistret L. Uma Devi then consented that the accused be bailed RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Feb 17 for remention of case for the surrender of documents.

Newspapers yesterday reported that a video recording of an angry man creating a ruckus at the RTD office went viral after being shared on several social sites including Facebook.

The four-minute video via a personal account belonging to a man by the name of Amin Beyond showed Syed Amen losing his cool after he could not renew his car road tax.
