Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin sparked a controversy when he associated the Germany team which trashed Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final match of the 2014 World Cup early this morning with Adolf Hitler.

Not long after Germany humiliated the host nation in front of thousands of fans, Bung Mokhtar wrote this on his Twitter account:

His remark drew negative reactions from other Twitter users. However, he just brushed them aside:

The statement was not well-received by other Twitter users, many of whom said it reflected his level of thinking.

A few Twitter users forwarded Bung Mokhtar’s statement to the official Twitter account of international media organizations such as BBC, CNN and AlJazeera.

It is believed that Bung Mokhtar’s tweet is not the only statement relating the semi-final match with Hitler.

An assistant to a cabinet minister in Nigeria also made a similar statement with the same tone but later deleted it.

A quick search on Twitter also showed several Twitter users outside of Malaysia criticizing those associating German’s win with Hitler and Nazi.

Hitler ruled Nazi from 1933 to 1945 and was responsible for the killing of millions of Jews during World War II.

Bung Mokhtar became an MP since 1999. This is not the first time he sparked a controversy. Previously he was criticised for his insensitive statement on women, race and other issues.
