Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said a Digital Content Industry Fund will be set up under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) with an allocation of RM100 million to promote the creative industry.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said that to develop creative industries such as animation, filming, designing and cultural heritage, the government had allocated RM200 million to MyCreative Ventures in 2012, for the same purpose.

He said this when presenting the "Budget 2015: The People's Needs Economy" in the Dewan Rakyat, here, Friday.

MyCreative Venture was incorporated under the Finance Ministry in April 2012, to convince banks and financial institutions on the viability of accepting intellectual properties as collaterals for loans.

Najib said the establishment of the fund under the MCMC was to enhance and spur the growth of, among others, the animation sector, film, architecture and cultural heritage.
