“If you really want to do something, if you play your cards well, you can achieve something,” says Peter Davies, a model turned actor turned MMA fighter.

At 32 years old, Peter Davis who is half Malaysian and half British has achieved what many men out there would love to have.

But the journey wasn’t as sweet as the results he holds in his hands today.

“Few years ago in England I had a tough time when I had a long term relationship break up, I lost my job and my house which means I have to move back in with my parents.

“So with 800 pounds in cash left, I decided to go to Malaysia and things turn around for the better,” he said at the BYouth Be Inspired talk organised by Borders Bookstore in The Gardens Mall, here.

According to Davis, it was his friend who suggested for him to try modelling although he feels reluctant in the beginning which soon afterwards created amazing opportunities for him.

Even so, mixed martial heart has always been in him since he was in the United Kingdom.

“I went for mixed martial arts training back when I was still in England on the weekends as well as MMA fights.

“But when I came to Malaysia and starts modelling, I told myself, ‘Okay let’s give this (fighting) up for the time being because if I get hit on the face....that will be the end of my modelling career,” Davis added where he got his audience roared with laughter.

Though his modelling and acting career is blossoming, fighting in the cage is part of him and Davis admits that it was a scary thought that he would be losing his fight to his opponent.

“I did question myself at first. But I tried to overcome my fear by just getting in the cage and have a fight. I just focused on the fact that I know I can fight and so I put everything on the line and just make sure I do my job that night which is to win that fight.

“Of course you feel fear of failure. But you will never know what will happen unless you give it a try. I wouldn’t be doing this talk if I hadn’t diversified a little bit. I decided I can do it and although it didn’t really go hand in hand, but I’m going to try to do it really really well and with focus,” he added.

The father to a three year old boy will be back in the cage in a month’s time and will start an intensive Muay Thai training for two full weeks nonstop.

He began learning a martial art called 'Wuji Chuan' from a fellow Malaysian in England when he was 20 years old.

He made his mixed martial arts debut against Masaya Doi and won by knockout after 59 minutes at UKMMAC in 2004.

His next fight was against Darren Guisha and the fight was for the UKMMAC Welterweight title but Davis lost a unanimous decision.

Davis did not compete for two years until he faced Paul Broughton at UKMMAC in 2006 with the UKMMAC Welterweight title on the line again. This time Davis was victorious winning with a unanimous decision to become the UKMMAC Welterweight champion.

In December 2011, Davis made a comeback, fighting for the first time in five years at Malaysian Fighting Championship in Kuala Lumpur. He defeated Nursultan Arsen Uule by rear naked choke in the opening round and afterwards admitted that he had done very little training for this fight.
