Police have recorded statements from the food stall operator in Siputeh here yesterday in connection with the food poisoning case which affected more than 30 victims here last week.

Perak CID chief Datuk Goh Kok Liang said police had also recorded statements from several other individuals to further investigations.

"The investigation paper was opened to ascertain whether or not there was foul play," he told reporters at the Batu Gajah police headquarters here today.

He said apart from the police, the Health Ministry was also investigating the case.

A total of 37 people, aged between two and 71, were affected, with four being referred to hospital, after consuming food contaminated with pesticides at the stall on May 4.

Yesterday, Perak Chemistry Department confirmed the matter after tests done on samples of sambal nasi lemak, fried kuey teow, kuih bom and cucur badak taken from the stall, which has since been ordered to close.

Meanwhile, State Health, Public Transport, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said two victims were still warded at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital as at today, with one in the intensive care unit (ICU).

"Another victim who is receiving treatment at a private hospital is reported to be recovering well," he said in a statement.
