PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today said that the appointment of the party’s deputy president, Mohamed Azmin Ali as the next Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) was not in line with the provisions of the Selangor constitution.

Dr Wan Azizah however in a statement said that she accepted the decision made by the Sultan of Selangor with an open heart and is confident that PKR will continue to defend the principle of democratic constitutional monarchy.

She also announced her withdrawal as a candidate from the state’s MB post.

Dr Wan Azizah added that the party’s Central Leadership Council (MPP) had unanimously agreed to Mohd Azmin’s appointment as the next Selangor MB.

“The Central Leadership Council which held a meeting today had unanimously agreed to the decision. I accept with an open heart the decision made by Sultan of Selangor who appointed Azmin as the new Selangor MB.

“I congratulate and thank all the 29 Selango exco members from PKR, DAP and PAS who had supported me since August 14, 2014 and enable Pakatan Rakyat to remain as the Selangor government.

“I appreciate the solidarity shown by the 29 Selangor state assemblyman who had placed the importance of the people’s mandate over their personal interests,” stated Dr Wan Azizah.

Dr Wan Azizah added that the decision was taken based on the peoples interest on the awareness that the crisis in Selangor should be solved immediately.
