Selangor Menteri Besar, Azmin Ali has no intention to revoke the agreement between the Federal Government and the State Government over quality water supply in the state.

In a report by English daily The Star, Azmin has urged the state government for full disclosure of the water deal.

“How do you expect me and the new administration to defend the decisions made on the project if we can't explain to the rakyat the terms and conditions. The tariff rates that will be applied and how it will affect them as consumers?” said Azmin.

However, most quarters including his Pakatan Rakyat colleagues are expecting him (Azmin) to annul the agreement as many see it as a deal merely made between the former MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and UMNO.

It was reported that Azmin has received the memorandum of understanding, heads of agreement as well as the master agreement -- all of which were subjected to the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Due to the non-disclosure conditions, the details of the agreement can't be revealed, said Azmin.

Azmin has also submitted a written request to Energy, Green Technology, and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili for the government to reveal the details of the deal.

Dr Maximus, however did not reply to the request stating that the Attorney-General does not permit it. The concessionaire companies are also against it.

With the signing of this agreement on Sept 12, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, a new entity takes over the operations and maintenance of the water treatment plants and water supply services which were previously managed by four concession companies.

Air Selangor Sdn Bhd takes over three water concessionaires in Selangor, namely Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PNSB) and Konsortium ABASS Sdn Bhd (Abass) and the water services licence holder, Konsortium Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (KASB).
