Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was met by reporters on Friday has confirmed that he is no longer PKR’s candidate for the upcoming Kajang by-election.

“Whoever is the replacement should be a better candidate,” said Anwar.

Anwar however stressed that he will continue to campaign to ensure a win for Pakatan Rakyat in the by-election scheduled to take place on March 23.

The Opposition leader lost his qualification to contest in the by-election following his guilty verdict for sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in a condominium, six years ago.

Following the verdict Anwar was sentenced to five years in prison, but was granted a stay of execution of the sentence with a bail of RM10,000 in one surety.

The question which arises now is, who will PKR forward as the next candidate for the Kajang by-election.

The names of PKR Strategic Director, Rafizi Ramli and the party’s Secretary–General, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail are now rumoured to replace Anwar as the candidate for the by-election.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the Kajang by-election to be held on March 23 while the nomination is scheduled for March 11.
