Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa today made a surprise visit to the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Pharmacy Department of the Putrajaya Hospital, here.

At the end of the visit, he said he was satisfied to find that the two departments had taken some initiatives to provide better services to their clients.

"At the NRD, I found that although the counters were supposed to close at 4.30 pm, the staff were willing to stay back and try to solve all cases they had on that day," he told Bernama when visiting the paediatric ward at Putrajaya Hospital here.

Ali said he also found that there was less bureaucracy at the Pharmacy Department of the Putrajaya Hospital as patients could now take their medicines directly at the counter without having to register at other counter first as previously practiced.

As such, he said he would continue making such a surprise visit to other departments and public agencies to check the quality of service provided and the level of public satisfaction.

Ali said the visit was in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's call for civil servants to provide best service to the people.

"So, I will make a series of surprise visits so that I can personally see how the public are being treated and I thank the agencies which had given their best service," he said.

During the visit to the paediatric ward, in which he was accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Rohani Abdullah, who is also the president of the National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita), Ali also presented Puspanita's donation totalling RM140,000 to the hospital.

The donation includes two units of high-end infant warmers worth RM100,000 and 50 wheelchairs. - BERNAMA
