American hip-hop and R&B sensation Akon recently performed at the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he surfed through the crowd in a giant, clear bubble.

The stunt, while some called as unique, has drawn brickbats from certain quarters slamming the rapper trying to avoid direct contact with the crowd to prevent himself from being infected with Ebola virus.

Over 3,000 people have succumbed to the deadly epidemic in West Africa this year, including 42 deaths in the republic.

His 'stunt' also drew the attention of media members from around the globe citing that the performer had used the giant ball during his past concerts in Perth, Australia and Dubai in 2010.

The 41-year-old rapper, whose hits include Smack That and Sweetest Girl reacted defensively which leveled at him during the September 21 show held of International Peace Day in Goma.
