Winning the 2014 ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup (AFF Suzuki Cup) will not affect Malaysia’s current football DNA.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the performance of the current senior squad will have zero or very minimal bearing on the new football DNA that the ministry is trying to seed under the National Football Development Programme.

“Our work of planting or building the new DNA under NFDP Technical Director, Lim Teong Kim starts now from the age of seven and will hopefully bear fruits in five to 10 years' time,” Khairy told Astro AWANI.

According to Bangkok Post, Thailand’s White Elephant team is expecting a huge sum of more than RM2.12 million (20 million baht) if they were to bring back the Cup.

However, a huge ‘surprise’ also awaits Harimau Malaya team should they bring home the coveted Cup for the second time following their success in 2010.

“There will surely be incentives awaiting the team should they win the Cup tonight. We have to win first and I'll announce it later,” said Khairy.

Khairy also urged Malaysian supporters to enjoy the game in good sporting spirit, with an open heart and mind, and not to resort to violence and rudeness.

“I hope no one loses hope. We need three goals to overturn the game and nothing is impossible, especially in football. Players need to focus and give their best shot tomorrow night (tonight).

"I hope the coach, 'Pablo' Dollah Salleh has something special to contain the Thais, be it their young players or the experienced ones,” Khairy said.

Malaysia will meet Thailand in the second leg tournament at Stadium Bukit Jalil tonight. The team lost to Thailand 0-2 in the first leg game on Thursday.
