Should a PAS candidate be picked by the Selangor Palace to become the Selangor menteri besar to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the PAS Ulama Council has suggested that the party accept the decision.

The proposal of the Ulama Council was expressed by its representative, Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamad in the winding-up session at the 60th PAS Assembly in Parit Raja yesterday.

"(PAS) President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had sent a letter containing three names, with one of them being a PAS candidate. The Ulama Council proposes that we accept whatever the decision of the Sultan of Selangor.

"We accept, if it is given to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), and we will also accept if it is given to PAS. Why make enemies of the Palace? This is my humble view," he said.

According to Mahfodz, the decision to accept the post of menteri besar, should the PAS candidate be picked, was in line with the decision made by Abdul Hadi.

The new menteri besar of Selangor is expected to be appointed on Tuesday.

On the question of whether the PAS president must abide with the decision of the central working committee (CWC) on the Selangor MB issue, Mahfodz said Abdul Hadi did not have to abide by the committee's decision.

(The decision was to nominate PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy, Azmin Ali, as Selangor MB)

"I have studied the provision and found the president does not have to abide by the decision of the meeting. The head has the power to decide in this issue," he said.
