Less than 48 hours before the new Selangor Menteri Besar is sworn in this Tuesday at the Shah Alam palace, speculation is rife on who would be the next Menteri Besar.

Some are speculating that the choice is between Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Mohamed Azmin Ali, Cempaka assemblyman Iskandar Abdul Samad and Sijangkang assemblyman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi.

According to a Pakatan Rakyat (PR) source, all three candidates have been ‘interviewed’ by the Shah Alam palace but it was learnt that Mohamed Azmin received the nod of approval to become the MB.

“Mohamed Azmin was the last to enter the palace as he met with a few of the palace’s senior officials to discuss the swearing in function this Tuesday.

“Everything has been agreed upon. Just waiting for the event. Now, we can say that 99 per cent, the MB post belongs to Mohamed Azmin,” said the source when met at Astro AWANI office here, today.

A news portal had also reported that Mohamed Azmin Ali is expected to be appointed as the Selangor MB.

The report that quoted sources, said that Anwar had contacted party secretary-general Datuk Saifudin Nasution Ismail to include Mohamed Azmin’s name in the list of candidates to be submitted to the palace.

Right after the 13th General Election, speculation was rife that Mohamed Azmin will be sworn in as the Selangor MB, but Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was sworn in for the second term.

On Aug 9, PKR expelled Abdul Khalid and nominated its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as its choice for the MB post.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before this said that Dr Wan Azizah’s nomination was PKR’s decision and it has to be respected in the PR spirit.

On Friday, Sultan of Selangor's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani said that the Selangor Palace will announce the name of the new Selangor MB by Monday at the latest.
