Malaysia is the 35th "best country" in the world while Switzerland topped the second annual list of "Best Countries" ranking from U.S. News & World Report, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and global brand consultants BAV Consulting.

80 nations were measured for the 2017 report, up from 60 in the inaugural rankings last year - in which Malaysia was ranked 28th.

Each country was scored on attributes based on a collection of individual survey responses, and then the scores were normalized to account for outliers and transformed into a scale that could be compared across the board.

Attributes were grouped into nine sub-rankings: Adventure, Citizenship, Cultural Influence, Entrepreneurship, Heritage, Movers, Open for Business, Power and Quality of Life.

Singapore, ranked 15th overall, topped the list among ASEAN countries that made the list, followed by Thailand in 26th spot. Behind Malaysia, Indonesia was ranked 39th, Vietnam 40th, Philippines 43rd, and Myanmar 57th.
