Two friends were killed and three other people injured in an accident involving a motorcycle and two vehicles at the 25km Jalan Mak Lagam-Cheneh here, Monday afternoon.

Rosli Husin, 20, and Safie Yusof, 27, who were on a motorcycle fell into a ravine and died on the spot in the 2.30pm crash.

Earlier, the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Toyota Harrier sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Mohd Hafeez Sulong, 25, after the SUV skidded and entered the opposite lane where Rosli and Safie were travelling on the machine.

At that juncture, a Ford Ranger four-wheel drive (4WD) which was behind the motorcycle rammed into the SUV.

Confirming the crash, Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim said Mohd Hafeez sustained head and chest injuries while the 4WD driver, farm supervisor Mohd Yusmali Mohd Yusoff, 51, sustained chest and leg injuries and his wife, Zaleha Abu Bakar, 49, fractured her left hand and ribs.

He said the bodies of Rosli and Safie were sent to the Kemaman Hospital, adding the injured sought treatment at the same hospital.

Mohd Said said Mohd Hafeez was later transferred to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for further treatment.
