Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has assured that 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) current and former top executive will appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

"The officials will appear before the PAC, they are not running away," he said when asked if they would do so.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of his three-day official visit to Japan, Najib, who is also the Finance Minister, said the officials had something to sort out.

"They will show up...they will come," he said after a dialogue with students at the Tohoku University here.

1MDB chief executive officer (CEO) Arul Kanda Kandasamy and former CEO Datuk Shahrol Halmi were scheduled to appear before the PAC today, but instead they requested to testify on another date.

The PAC was notified by the Ministry of Finance on last Friday that the 1MDB hearing set for today had to be postponed as Arul Kanda and Shahrul were unable to attend due to commitments overseas.

In a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur, 1MDB said Arul Kanda and Shahrol looked forward to appearing before the committee and having an opportunity to clarify the company's position.

Last week, the PAC started an investigation into the government strategic investment company which is facing allegations over its financial position.
