Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said critics of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) can never be satisfied.

“They will demand that you do what they want and when you submit to their demands they will still not be happy,” he wrote in his blog today.

He said at first, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was accused of stealing RM2.6 billion of 1MDB funds and was alleged to have transferred it to his personal accounts.

He said the critics then demanded to know whether this was true and became angry when Najib ignored the demands.

“The truth is whatever Najib would have said would never satisfy those asking for his explanation,” he said in his blog.

Salleh said Najib had then instructed the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.

“MACC then announced that the money was not from 1MDB but was from a donor. That was what they demanded to know and that was what MACC confirmed,” he said.

He said the critics are now questioning why it took so long for the MACC to confirm that the money was not 1MDB funds and why it was not confirmed much earlier.

He said some of the critics also wanted to know whether the donation came with strings attached because they said a donation that size would surely come with terms and conditions.

“So what is the issue now? Should they not be happy that the money was not stolen from 1MDB as alleged?,” he questioned.

“That is what they demanded to know and that was what MACC confirmed. If Najib tells them that the donation did not come with strings attached would they believe him?,” he further questioned.

On Monday, MACC said funds amounting to RM2.6 billion supposedly deposited into Najib’s personal account, were campaign donations and not funds from 1MDB.

MACC said this was based on its investigation into SRC International and added that the investigation report into the alleged transfer of funds had been referred to the Attorney-General.
