Vantage Point - New ?trend? of HIV infections in Malaysia. Malaysia has made good progress in mitigating HIV since it was first recorded here in 1986. While the epidemic was initially dominated by transmission through Drug Users (IDU), there has been a rise in HIV cases attributed to heterosexual intercourse.In 2011, 45% of all new HIV infections occurred from heterosexual transmission and worryingly, this phenomenon is prevalent among the younger demographic.Cynthia Ng speaks to Prof. Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman, Director of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERiA) in University Malaya about this new ?trend? of HIV infections in Malaysia.
